Charles Wong

Beatboxer

Beatboxing is using your mouth to make rhythms and sound effects, and that’s what Charles does during performances. Anything goes from the basic kick drum or snare drum, to sirens, trumpets and animal sounds, or even beating and singing certain songs at the same. What defines his style is that Charles does not stick to the norm of what other beatboxers do.
He is always on the look-out for new stuff fresh from the radio or advertisements or games around him, and he works towards imitating them so that the audience can relate to what he is doing and fully enjoy the show.
Charles has collaborated with several outstanding local artistes such as Channel U Superband's JUZ B and Singapore Idol's 3rd Finalist, Jasmine Tye. He is currently one of the top beatboxers in the local beatbox scene, having garnered top honors at the 98.7fm National Beatbox Championships 2005, and bagging 2nd place at the coveted Club Orange Beatbox National Competition in 2006.
He was invited as one of the judges in the same competition in 2007. Charles served as Judge at the 2008 Asia Beatbox Championship. In the same year, Charles emerged top 2 finalists at the 98.7fm National Beatbox Championships which was the opening item at hip-hop star Kanye West's Concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The seasoned performer has been featured at numerous events and functions such as MTV's Bario 19, the Istana Open House ‘06, and Viva Verdi Opera at The Esplanade in ‘07, and The Chinese Cultural Festival ‘08, Singapore Fireworks Celebrations ‘08 to name a few. He has also conducted several workshops at MOE Schools. Charles never fails to wow and inspire his audience with his mind-blowing performances.
